Walter Feldman (1925-2017). Wool Tapestry, 1964. Abstract design. Can be used as rug or wall hanging. Dimensions: 35" x 46". Feldman became interested in wool tapestries after seeing a tapestry donated by architect Philip Johnson to Brown University after an Arshile Gorky design. Impressed by its' beauty, Feldman worked on color studies he shared with a Hong Kong company then commissioned a series of 5 unique such tapestries to be manufactured based upon his design. The company specially dyed all of the colors to match exactly Feldman’s water color studies. This “Abstract” is one of a few available examples of a Feldman Wool Tapestry created in 1964. A tribute to Feldman’s love of experimentation in materials and artistic breadth in his 50 plus career. Feldman came to Brown University in 1953 after getting an MFA from Yale and teaching there for 2 years. He won a Fulbright scholarship in 1957. His works have been included in one person and group exhibitions at major museums such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Institute of Contemporary Art.

Good. Water stain on backing but no discoloration of the virgin wool pile.
