Description
Navajo Germantown Blanket with Waterbug Symbols and Salt and Pepper Fields c. 1890s, 102.25" x 65.5". It has one cotton sleeve onto one edge for hanging, this can easily be removed. Acquired from an old family collection in Arizona. The owners of this collection acquired many of their pieces directly from Claiborne "Clay" Lockett (1908-1984). Clay Lockett was a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Northern Arizona from 1959-1971, purchasing agent for the Museum Shop from the time it opened in 1965, regular judge for Museum shows, appraiser of acquisitions, and one of MNA's most generous donors having given two major collections of Indian paintings, kachina dolls, rugs, jewelry, and pottery. Each lot shows additional images, condition reports, and provenance. Please review all images. NOTE SHIPPING HANDLING TIME: Please allow a handling time of 1 to 3 weeks for your item(s) to be shipped. In gallery pick up date starts May 19th by appointment. NOTE FEES CHARGED: 1. Condition
This weaving is in near excellent condition. It has one cotton sleeve onto one edge for hanging, this can easily be removed. One end of the weaving has extra selvage binding that the weaver added. One selvage edge has loops that the weaver added. There is one tiny moth grazing area 1/4" in size on one side only. The warp count is 8, and the weft count is 40 per inch. Please review images.
