Ink on scratch board, 1942. Signed, Packard, and dated, 42, lower right and again, lower left. 355x280 mm; 14x11 inches.
Emmy Packard was born in California in 1914, but spent her formative years in Mexico City where she met Diego Rivera. Rivera took on a mento role in her artistic development. Packard returned to california and studied at the calofornia Institute of Fine Arts. She learned the fresco technique while at the Institute. In 1939 she worked with Rivera on the creation of his mural presented at the Golden gate International Expo on Treasure Island, in San Francisco Bay. After the expo the mural was moved to City College of San Francisco (CCSF).
