Description
Egypt, Romano-Egyptian to Coptic Period, ca. 4th to 7th century CE. A mold-formed pottery flask used and oftentimes purchased by pilgrims when at a holy site. The slender ampulla features a pair of arching handles above the 2 molded midsections. The obverse features a short inscription, perhaps a dedication to the holy site from whence it came, and the reverse features a soft profile of a human head, perhaps that of a Nubian. Size: 1.02" L x 2.73" W x 3.87" H (2.6 cm x 6.9 cm x 9.8 cm)

Condition
Repairs to body and arms, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Softening to raised decorations on each face, with light abrasions and earthen deposits, otherwise in great condition. Nice preservation to overall form.
