Description
(1828-1868) Confederate major general fighting at Chickamauga, Chattanooga, and Atlanta. Shot in 1868 because of his reconstructionist involvement. War-date A.L.S. ‘T.C. Hindman’, 1p. 4to., Decatur, Alabama, March 11, 1862, to Gen. John B. Floyd, in part: ‘...Lieut. Sweet has called upon me for the wagons formerly belonging to Gen’l. Clark’s command. I could not leave them over at Huntsville, for one reason that I was ordered to this place by a different route...I could not move my command unless a part of the baggage was sent upon the cars...[Gen. Johnston] ordered me to retain the wagons and directed that you should procure others in their stead...[I] hope you will do me the justice to believe that it has been with reluctance that I have availed myself of General Johnston’s order...’. Very good.
