Item Details
Description
  • Title:Glory By Charles Fager
  • Description: Professor Charles Fager, the artist of this exceptionally unique piece, is an internationally recognized sculptor, with other works of his having been exhibited at many renowned institutions such as the Renwick Gallery, The Museum of Contemporary Crafts N.Y., the National Collection of Fine Art, and has his most famous work, Thinking About Self-Portraits (1978) on permanent display at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. He was awarded Professor Emeritus by the University of South Florida in 1999, and during his time at the University worked closely with mainstays in modern art such as Deli Sacilotto and Donald Saff. Here he would have also worked alongside famed artists like Chuck Close, Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist, and Jim Dine, though Fager’s mediums of choice differed greatly from theirs. This unique, and enigmatic, piece is an amalgamation of styles and themes. It displays both patriotic symbolism such as the presidential seal, military insignia, and the words “Glory” and “Charge.” And couples them with the raised motif of a child, or perhaps a cherub, and a distorted face on the opposite side.
