A WOMAN'S PURPLE-GROUND SILK LADY'S INFORMAL SURCOAT, WAITAO, 19TH CENTURY
China, Qing dynasty (1644-1912). Finely couched in gold-wrapped thread with flowering peony, prunus, and iris as well as fluttering butterflies above the terrestrial diagram, crashing waves and lishui stripe interspersed with peony and auspicious symbols, the sleeves with blossoms growing from rockwork with lingzhi and a brightly embroidered butterfly.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, few loose threads, and minimal staining.
Provenance: US trade.
