Group of Twenty Three Pieces of Ephemera, 19th c., consisting of a Perpetual Diary, 1853, hand written notes, another diary, wills, including loan and deed documents, some with revenue stamps, some with state seals, Perpetual Diary - H.- 5 in., W.- 3 in., D.- 1/2 in. (23 Pcs.)
Condition
Most of these documents, dated 1850s-1870s, are from Joseph S. Farnham (1812-1895) a Natchez, Mississippi carpenter and his wife, Delia Frances White (1824-1903). The diaries include an 1853 calendar with carpentry measurements and notations; the other diary is a ledger of Farnham's accounts. Seven of the documents are paid receipts from Natchez clients; the rest of the documents are deed, wills and mortgages held by the Farnham family as well as other Natchez residents. Most of the loose paper documents are in well preserved folded condition with minor toning and fading. The diaries are well worn with cracked leather exteriors from pocket use and age.
