circa 1820's, oil on board, with a hound at the neck of the stag,

296B Landseer studio sale, Christie's, May 8-15 1874, lot 253, 'Stage and Deerhound', bt Miller, £57.15.
742 FR Late T. Horrocks Miller sale, Christie's, 14 July 1933, lot 32, 'A Study for "A Wounded Stag" ', 17 x 23 in. bought Wilson, 8 guineas. Horrocks Miller may have been a son of Thomas Miller (.1865), another well-known art collector whose papers are in the Royal Academy archives. Horrocks Miller owned other works by Landseer.
Lyneham House, Yealmpton – The house and contents including the Landseer were purchased from Peter Cadbury in the 1980’s.
Private collection of a London gentleman.
The sketch has striking similarities to one of the wounded stags and hounds in the celebrated composition The Hunting of ‘Chevy Chase’ (1825-26) (Birmingham Museums Trust)
