Description
Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Or Canada, Inuit, ca. 1950s to 1960s CE. A mask of animal hide, sinew, and fox fur. To make this type of mask, caribou skin is stretched and dried over a wooden mold then peeled off and holds its form, then the eye and mouth holes are cut. Last the fur hair and trim is added; note the delicate lashes around the eye slits! This mask represents one of the earliest forms of the newly developing mask industry by Inuit artisans in the 20th century, using traditional materials from Arctic animals. Size: 9" L x 6.5" W (22.9 cm x 16.5 cm)

Hair is matted together from storage. Fraying and light shedding to hairs and white whiskers at the top. Rest of the mask is intact.
