BIOGRAPHY:
Mr. Kearns' interest in art was stimulated by attending Sunday afternoon lectures at the Art Institute, and in 1942 he had his clerical job in the stock yards changed from days to nights so he could attend classes at the institute. His work began appearing in Art Institute shows while he was still attending classes.Shortly after his graduation in 1946 he married fellow artist Jane Dorsey, the operator of an Evanston art studio, whom he met at the school.Mr. Kearns' favorite subjects were Paris and the stock yards. Referring to the timber of the pens, ramps and cattle walks, he called the stock yards "the most beautiful mile of shades of gray in the world."Each year Mr. Kearns and his wife vacationed in Paris where they painted views of the Seine. After his retirement they traveled to Nice, where they spent four years painting scenes of the French countryside before returning to Evanston.
