Measure 16 1/2"in H x 26 1/2"in W and 21 3/4"in H x 32"in W x 2"in D with frame
Known for: Landscape-coastal, streets and portrait painting
Biography: A landscape painter and illustrator, Frank Henry Shapleigh was born in Boston. As a young man he studied art at the Lowell Institute, but interrupted his career briefly to join the Union Army in 1863. After the Civil War Shapleigh studied in Paris (1867-1869) with Emile Lambinet, whose pastoral landscape style strongly influenced his work. Settling in Jackson, New Hampshire, he painted atmospheric landscapes, favoring the White Mountains for his subject matter. In the 1880s he also illustrated books and magazines. From 1886 until his death in 1906, Shapleigh spent part of each year in his studio at the Ponce De Leon Hotel, Saint Augustine, Florida, during which time he painted these street scenes.

Any lots which remain on Coral Gables Auction premises longer than 30 business days following the sale will incur a charge for storage and handling of $5.00 per day for each lot. All paid items left after 3 months will be considered abandoned property and properly disposed of
