For your consideration are (2) 19th Century Japanese porcelain figures of Kannon - Goddess of Mercy. As one of Buddhism's most beloved deities, Kannon, formally known as Kanzeon Bosatsu, is the modern Japanese rendering of Guanyin. Guanyin was originally Guanshiyin, which translated to One who Perceives the Sounds of the World. Kannon is revered as the bodhisattva of mercy, the keeper of peace and reliever of troubles.

The seated Kannon figure is decorated with richly pigmented enamels in intricate designs and is holding a scroll in her left hand - a symbol of her presentation of knowledge to the world. No markings are noted on this figure.

The large standing figure of Kannon is breath-taking with her flowing and gathered robes and all over underglaze blue decorations. Her robes are covered with representations of the pheonix and scrolling vines in bloom - all symbols which fit so well into her iconography. No markings are noted on this figure.
