Description
An antique Japanese hand-painted porcelain figurine. Late Edo period, mid-19th century. The piece represents a Buke Musume, Samurai Daughter, a young woman in a richly decorated cobalt blue mantle. Rare piece. Shimazu family crest mark on the bottom. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated. Shimazu clan was the main producer of Satsuma ware. Collectible Oriental Asian Decor, Porcelain Ware.
