Andrew Jackson Silk Mourning Ribbon with a Huge Portrait
1845 General & President Andrew Jackson, Silk Mourning Ribbon, Published by Edward P. Whaites of New York, with Huge Central Portrait of Jackson, Sullivan-Fischer AJ-M3, Very Fine.
Sullivan-Fischer AJ-M3. This scarce black printed off-white Silk Ribbon measures about 7.25" x 2.75" and is titled, "In Memory of Departed Worth", and includes a printed huge image of President Andrew Jackson seated at a reading table with book and a smaller engraved image of the Hermitage below. Below those images the ribbon reads:
"Gen. Andrew Jackson. Born Mar. 15th, 1767. Died June 8th, 1845. in his 79th year. His fair renown shall never fade away, Nor shall the Mention of his name decay, Thorough to the Dust his mortal part we give, His Fame in Triumph o'er the Grave shall live."
Nicely mounted on card backing for display and protection, lightly toned, and with a couple of trivial pinholes at top where the ribbon was attached to a mourner's lapel. An impressive strong painting-like portrait of an aged President Jackson.
