Description

1970 Porsche 911 2.2T coupe Chassis no. 9110121697 Engine no. 6106613 • Desirable 'Pastel Blue' from new • One owner believed from new to 2011 • Professionally restored • Matching numbers engine • Some important upgrades * Please note that this car will be available for viewing by prior appointment in Belgium. 'Quite understandably, journalists got excited about the revised 911s. For many reasons, the 2.2-litre cars would be among the best Porsches ever made. Performance was more than adequate, all the 'bugs' had been eradicated and genuine improvements had been made. Even the 'baby' 911T was capable of 206km/h, dashing from rest to 100km/h in under 9 seconds' – Lawrence Meredith, Porsche 911 Model by Model. The 911T (Touring) was introduced in 1967 and gained a 2.2 litre engine (as did the rest of the range) in 1969. It also gained a slightly longer wheelbase and accordingly improved handling. This iteration was capable of generating 125bhp and attaining a top speed of 200km/h. When the heavier 2.4 litre version arrived in 1972 performance remained stubbornly fixed at the levels achieved with the 'lesser' engine and, for many aficionados of early 911s, the 2.2 is the one to have. Built on the 1st December 1969 as a 1970 model-year car, this 911 2.2T was delivered new to Porsche North America in this Pastel Blue colour, with beige leatherette upholstery with basketweave inlays. Its first owner is believed to have owned the car until 2011, when he sold it to the Missouri dealer from whom the current vendor bought the car that same year. The car had been laid up for around 30 years and was in wholly original, unrestored condition when the vendor took the car back to Europe in 2011 and then began work to restore it in the Netherlands in 2016. The car was worked on principally by Porsche specialists Van Der Palen Technique, who first stripped the vehicle and had the shell sent to Steur Oudenbosch to be ice blasted back to bare metal. The newly painted shell was left for 6 months to allow the paint to harden correctly. Van der Palen rebuilt the engine, drivetrain, suspension and all other mechanicals. Everything that required checking, refurbishing or replacing was checked, refurbished and replaced according to need, and regardless of cost. While the vendor has sought to retain as much originality as possible, he has made some concessions to safety, performance and comfort. These include: stainless steel exhaust, Weber carburettors, Bosch distributor, smaller diameter steering wheel, upgraded S-spec brakes, Bilstein suspension, and Sport Pepita seats. Offered fresh from restoration, the 911 2.2T will need some shake-down kilometres. It was never registered in the current owner's name and comes with its old US Title and EU-import taxes paid document. It also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity confirming matching numbers and the car's original Pastel Blue paintwork.
