The work is decorated in a stylish wooden frame.—Jacques Hnizdovsky (1915-1985) was an outstanding Ukrainian and American artist, graphic artist, ceramist, and art critic. At one time, two of his works decorated the office of US President John F. Kennedy in the White House.Yakov Hnizdovsky's works are kept in numerous museum and private collections around the world, including the Library of Congress (Washington), the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the University of Delaware, the University of Washington, the Nelson Rockefeller Collection (USA), and others. At one time, the artist created the bookplate of the Harvard College Ukrainian Seminar, part of which became the logo of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Harvard University. —Hnizdovskyy Jacques was born in the village of Pylypche, Ternopil region (Ukraine). He studied at the Warsaw Academy of Arts, the Zagreb Academy of Arts, and perfected his skills in Paris. He worked with oil paints, tempera, various solid dyes, engraved on wooden and metal boards, and sculpted small forms. He worked in the genres of portraiture, still life, icon, book illustration, bookplate, created designs for stamps of the Plast mail, etc. His legacy includes hundreds of paintings and over 300 engravings (woodcuts, etchings, and linocuts). —Gnizdovsky, Yakiv, Jakiw, New York, Ukrainian-American painter
