SHERMAN, William T. (1820-1891). Letter signed ("W.T. Sherman"). New York, 25 February 1890. 1p. Sherman responds to a request for an autograph of Ulysses S. Grant. He writes in full: "Under no circumstances could I be induced to part with another autograph signature of General Grant. / Did I accede to one such request in every hundred received I would now be minus the few I retain." [With:] Copy of war-date LS from Sherman to Admiral David D. Porter. 1p, Vicksburg, MS, 7 March 1864.
