Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, New Mexico, Acoma Pueblo, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A charming pottery turtle sculpture with black on white fineline linear and geometric patterning. The underside is simply signed "Ethel" and attributed to Ethel Shields (1926 -2021) a notable Acoma potter. The turtle is hollow with the mouth forming a vent slit, modeled after traditional canteens but purely decorative and has built in suspension loops with a leather cord woven through to hand flush against a wall. Size: 11" L x 3" W x 14" H (27.9 cm x 7.6 cm x 35.6 cm)
