1948 Oskar J. W. Hansen Large Lotus Leaf Bowl with Stand. Large brass/gold color aluminum metal free form lotus leaf shaped bowl on stand. A very dramatic piece, sculptural on its own.Oskar J.W. Hansen (1892-1962) lived and worked in Charlottesville, Virginia, and was well known for his sand-cast organic bowls. Most of his smaller bowls were cast in brass but his larger lotus bowls were frequently made with anodized aluminum like this one.Hansen was born in Norway and studied at Port Arthur College and Northeastern University's divinity school before becoming a sculptor. One of his best known commissions are sculptures at the Hoover Dam. W 16" x D 9" x H 5", the weight is 4.5 lbs. Some age wear, cannot confirm base is original to piece. Makers mark on bottom of bowl.
