Ca. AD 100-300.A gold ring of a round hoop with wide shoulders providing an elegant and sturdy foundation for the bezel, which is adorned with a carnelian intaglio depicting a grazing deer. Animal depictions on Roman intaglios were highly popular, and they often held deep symbolic meanings. The deer, in particular, was a popular subject due to its association with the goddess Diana, the goddess of the hunt and the moon. The deer was also seen as a symbol of grace, agility, and speed. In Roman mythology, the deer was also associated with the god Faunus, who was often depicted as a hunter or protector of wild animals.
