Description
Portrait of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan on oval celluloid, painted in gouache with gold, unsigned. Framed in a simple black wood panel frame with silver acorn at top, under beveled magnifying glass. Shah Jahan reigned during the Golden Age of the Mughal Empire. He ascended the throne in 1627 after the death of his father, Emperor Jahangir. His thirty-year rule, 1628-1658, saw the development of the most significant examples of Mughal literature, architecture and design. Painting apprx 3-5/8"T x 2-5/8"W. Overall in frame apprx 6" x 4.5". From the collection of Juliane and Philip Lynch, Shaker Heights, Ohio.
