Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A near miniature gilded pottery shrine offering depicting a Buddha Shakyamuni standing with an unorthodox hand position upon a lotus throne within a pointed arch niche. The styling reflects an Ayutthaya influence. When examined closely with a magnifying glass, one can see that his face displays a serene expression, downcast eyes below arched eyebrows, smiling lips and curled headdress and ushnisha surmounted by a flame The piece shows intricate detailing and lustrous gilding. Wood block stand. Size: 1.875" W x 3.75" H (4.8 cm x 9.5 cm)
