Rare Cornelius Cased Glass and Brass Solar Lamp
mid-19th century, Philadelphia, fitted with a period Gothic Revival blown and cut glass shade with a fire-polished rim, the tank with a Cornelius label, the white-plated cut-to-sky blue standard set with a flower-molded capital, the base in the form of a Gothic Revival garrison attended by Revolutionary War soldiers, a cannon to one side.

Literature: The unelectrified lamp burner deflector/chimney holder, chimney and shade ring match those illustrated on page 20 in Gerald Gowitt's 19th Century Elegant Lighting, Argand Sinumbra, and Solar Lamps.

In overall good estate condition. Minimal wear to brass mounts and fittings, and small chips to base of glass shade.
