Item Details
Description
This exquisite Art Deco clock, produced by The Lux Clock M.F.G. Co. in Waterbury, Connecticut, U.S.A., is a striking example of the iconic style that defined an era. With dimensions of 8 inches by 9.25 inches, this spelter clock showcases the distinctive design elements characteristic of the Art Deco movement.

The Lux Clock Manufacturing Company, established in 1914 by Paul Lux, had its origins rooted in the expertise of the Lux family, including Paul Lux, his wife Caroline, and sons Fred and Herman. Prior to founding their own clock business, Paul Lux had gained experience working for the Waterbury Clock Company in Connecticut. This family venture marked the beginning of a legacy in clock manufacturing that contributed significantly to the industry.

Art Deco, recognized as an international decorative style, flourished from 1919 to 1939. Originally referred to as "le style moderne" or "Jazz Moderne," the term "Art Deco" was officially adopted during a scholarly reappraisal in 1968. This design movement embraced modernity, sophistication, and geometric shapes, influencing various fields such as architecture, fashion, and, of course, decorative arts.

The Lux Art Deco clock exemplifies the quintessential characteristics of this influential design period. The spelter material, a type of cast zinc alloy, is sculpted into sleek, streamlined forms that epitomize the streamlined elegance of Art Deco. The clock's precise lines, geometric patterns, and bold symmetry are hallmarks of the style, reflecting the spirit of innovation and modernity.

Whether displayed as a functional timepiece or as a piece of art, this Lux Art Deco clock encapsulates the essence of a bygone era. Its historical significance, coupled with the timeless allure of Art Deco design, makes it a remarkable addition to any collection or space.
