Description
GALESBURG, ILLINOIS STONEWARE FIGURAL DOG / SPANIEL DOORSTOPS, LOT OF TWO, each featuring left-facing Staffordshire-style spaniels sitting on two-tier oval pedestal bases with well-defined combed fur treatment to body, one salt-glazed with fine creamy white coloration and the other coated with a thick semi-translucent brown Albany-slip glaze reminiscent of Rockingham ware. Each having ventilation hole to underside. Probably Galesburg Pottery Co., Galesburg, IL. 1891-1898. 7 1/2" HOA, 7 1/2" W base.

Catalogue Note: Attributed to the Galesburg Pottery Co. on the basis of the combed fur and distinct two-tiered bases, which match several known "Galesburg" stamped examples. The factory was built in 1891 and burned in 1898.

Recently surfaced in an old Missouri collection.
Condition
Both in excellent undamaged condition with only minor wear to base edges. Manufacturing flaws including white dog with minor firing separation between dog and its base, as made.
