Egypt, Late Period, 25th Dynasty, ca 626 to 525 BCE. Fine carved wooden mummy mask that was once attached to a complete coffin through the use of wooden dowels. This, sensitive mask shows delineated headdress band, oval shaped eyes in black and white with well carved subtle lips and thin aquiline nose. This comes from an interesting period of Egyptian history when the Nubians to the south that had controlled the country were replaced by an Egyptian ruler. Egypt had one of its last golden ages during this period before decline and complete overthrown by Greeks, Persians and Romans. Size: 5" W x 9.5" H (12.7 cm x 24.1 cm); 12.5" H (31.8 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Harry Wallace collection, acquired in the 1980s, by descent to DB, New Paltz, New York, USA

Once part of a complete wooden sarcophagus attached with wooden dowels - still partially intact. Loss to some of the original pigment but overall a fine example.
