Partly printed appointment signed ("Andrew Johnson"), as President of the United States, countersigned by E.M. Stanton as Secretary of War. Washington, DC. 18 April 1865. One page, 15 1/2 x 19 3/4 in., folds, light toning, with embossed seal at left. Appointing William H. Barlow Assistant Quarter Master of Volunteers with the rank of Captain. [With:] GRANT, Ulysses S. (1822-1885). Partly printed appointment signed ("U.S. Grant"), as President of the United States, countersigned by George S. Boutwell as Secretary of the Treasury. Washington, DC. 16 December 1870. One page, 21 x 16 1/4 in., chipping and some chipping to edges, embossed lower left. Appointing William H. Barlow Assassor of Internal Revenue, Eleventh Collection District of Illinois. Barlow was duly admitted and qualified as an Attorney and Counselor of the Circuit Court of the United States of America, Southern District of Illinois, signed by J.A. Jones, Clerk. 13 January 1875. One page, 8 x 10 in., folds, embossed seal at left. -- Partly printed document issued by the University of Michigan to William H. Barlow for completing the Course of Legal Study of the University and obtaining the degree of Bachelor of Laws. 25 March 1868. One page, 15 3/4 x 20 1/4 in., wear to edges, silk ribbon and embossed seal at left. With the signatures of professors and regents included. Together, 5 documents associated with William H. Barlow, including 2 presidential signed appointments. The documents are rolled and housed in a 19th century metal tube.
