**Originally Listed At $250**

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1070 BCE. A hand-carved steatite bead in the form of a cowrie snail shell, hence the name "cowroid". A suspension hole is drilled lengthwise through the body while the bottom displays 4 hieroglyphs - a trussed ox, a trowel or adze, an ankh, and a mysterious sphinx rendered in recognizable detail. Size: 0.62" L x 0.44" W x 0.28" H (1.6 cm x 1.1 cm x 0.7 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Santa Barbara, California, USA collection; ex-Charles Craig collection, before 2000
