(20th Century Fox, 1978) A very rare original second draft copy of the script for the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special. So poorly received that it was never aired again or officially released on video, the special has become a cult-classic among fans. Carrie Fisher famously requested a copy from George Lucas in exchange for recording commentary for the trilogy. This draft is dated August 15, 1978, just (3) months before the show aired on November 18th of that same year. The (137) page script includes yellow, blue, and pink revision pages dated slightly later, indicating changes made before the 3rd draft was compiled on August 25th. Differences include an underwater opening effect shot, a flying bird that Chewbacca's son Lumpy interacts with, and much more complicated staging of the Life Day Celebration, all changes likely made to keep costs down. It also includes alternate spellings for the name of Chewbacca's father and home planet than have been seen in any other source. Measuring 8.5"x11"x1", the script is in very good condition, with a 5" tape mark, scuffs and wear very typical of production use.
