A LATE 19TH CENTURY EGYPTIAN REVIVAL MANTEL CLOCK ATTRIBUTED TO GEORGES EMILE HENRI SERVANT

the case surmounted by a silvered and parcel gilt bronze bust of an Egyptian queen, wearing a crown, fine detailing to her jewellery and drapery, raised on the Rouge Griotte and black marble case set with gilt and patinated bronze sphinxes and with reliefs of Egyptian gods, with engraved and silvered stylised motifs, the dial with recessed centre and applied Roman gilt numerals, signed 'BOXELL BRIGHTON', the movement similarly signed and numbered 4561, the twin train movement striking on a gong,

62cm high

Thomas Boxell of Brighton established his business as a watch and clockmaker during the 1850's in Brighton and was also a retailer of fine clocks including those by Thomas Cole. The present clock is undoubtedly French and so Boxell refers to the retailer. The style of the clock is so similar to those produced by Servant that is is highly likely he also produced this example.
