Description

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A remarkable free-blown glass double unguentarium with fully intact basket handles intended to hold 2 types of perfumes or cosmetic ointments. The glass is blown from a pale aqua hue and is semi-translucent- fully translucent glass was highly coveted by ancient cultures. Wealthy women in ancient Roman times would employ these pieces to contain their precious cosmetics, unguents, or scented oils as part of their hygiene and makeup routines. Size: 3" L x 1.2" W x 6.75" H (7.6 cm x 3 cm x 17.1 cm); 7.25" H (18.4 cm) on included custom stand.
