19th Century Horstmann U.S. Eagle Head Pommel Officer's Sword
28.5" blade. 34" overall with hilt. Single edged spear point blade with 14" off-center stopped median fuller and about 15" false edge. Both sides of blade are etched with floral motifs and a banner reading W.H. Horstmann/& Sons/Philadelphia. Hilt is cast brass with half clamshell guard showing spread eagle and other designs, and a closed beak eagle head pommel. Reeded bone grip damaged and missing some of the material.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
Condition
Good. Blade has mottled blue-grey appearance overall with scattered pitting. Hilt has some darkened discoloration to brass, and pommel is somewhat loose. Grip has losses to half of ribbed bone.
