Description
American, mid-19th century. A hand drawn and painted watercolor Civil War era family register,with title "Our Family Record" shields with birth and death dates, ribbons linking married couple, upper right is vignette of Civil War battle with troops, cannons and a dead horse, lower right vignette of two men in a cart with another man riding beside, upper left shows a couple in a farm wagon in a field harvesting corn, lower left shows a woman teaching children in a classroom "Ye Shall Know Them by Their Fruits. Do Men Gather Grapes of Thorns, or Figs of Thistles. Matt VII 16.", painted register having central lineage with four corner paneled scenes, the patriarch is Charles Van Eps, born 12, 1783 and died October 17, 1855, ribbon joins him and wife Mary Groat, 17 x 14.5 inches. Overall good condition, minimal foxing and staining to the paper. Housed in a grain painted frame.
