CONTINENTAL SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY) PAIR OF GENRE PAINTINGS, oil on canvas, each being a street setting depicting a young man, one seated as an organ grinder with his monkey, the other playing his bagpipe walking with a beggar, each signed "A. Merlin" lower edge. Housed in later gilt frames with original "A. MERLIN" plaque applied to the back, stretchers with remnants of old labels. Fourth quarter 19th century. 16 1/4" x 8" sight, 19 1/4" x 11" OA.

Very good condition, canvases relined, each with light to moderate craquelure, no apparent repairs or inpainting.
