CONTINENTAL SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY) SENTIMENTAL GENRE PAINTING, oil on mahogany panel, a finely executed depiction of an elderly bearded man, possibly blind, clutching rosary in right hand and wearing a tattered cloak, a young girl stands next to him offering assistance while they wait in the stone vestibule of a church, no signature located. Housed in a modern frame. Second half 19th century. 22 5/8" x 17 5/8" sight, 30" x 24 5/8" OA.
Painting in excellent visual condition with minor craquelure, possible minor areas of inpainting to background under varnish.
