(14) Piece Collection of 19th c. Dutch Square Bottles, purportedly retrieved from an African river; all in mold blown dark green glass, with applied lip, some with molded marks on the base, and most with embossed Dutch maker names: (4) V. Hoyetama & C., (3) African, (2) E. Kiderlen, (1) V. Meerten & C.; (1) Marken & Co.; (1) J.J.W. Peters; (1) C.W. Heerwig; and (1) unmarked, 9" to 9 1/2" high. Glass imperfections.Case bottles were produced from the 18th through the 20th c. and used extensively for the shipping trade, as the square shape prevented rolling and breakage at sea.
