Description
An iconic stoneware water cooler features an incised folk art fish in the center with a splash of cobalt on the body of the jar. Incised letters can also be seen, but a makers mark does not show. The body of this vessel has a strong ovoid form that narrows to a rolled under rim. The exact American origins of this cooler is unknown, but one would likely place in either the Midwest Ohio or Albany, New York. Further research may put the story together. It's iconic and massive in size standing just over 19 inches tall. Has survived in excellent condition with now apparent cracks. One handle has been professionally restored. A 19th century lead repair can be found in the side. An iconic example of incised, American stoneware!
