Description
ACTS AND LAWS OF HIS MAJESTY'S ENGLISH COLONY OF CONNECTICUT IN NEW-ENGLAND IN AMERICA. New London: Timothy Green, 1750. 11.5" x 7". [2, of 4?], 6, [2], 262, [2] pp. The pages following 256 (257-262) contain Acts printed in 1751 (dated on colophon); ESTC notes this variant also had Acts printed in 1752 added at end, making for 268 pages in total, but those final 3 pages are not present here. Instead, at rear as the final leaf is a table containing "Titles of the Laws." The "Charter" at front with a separate title and lacking A1 (likely a blank or imprimatur leaf?) Bound in period calf, preserving original spine. ************ With manuscript notes at rear including note of sale by Timothy Forsyth (presumably the Timothy Forsyth born 1718 in CT), sold to Samuel Witter (presumably the one born 1723 in CT); further sale to a John Brown.
Condition
Binding with some scuffs and chips. First 5 leaves (which includes both title-pages) are repaired with tissue and cover with either glue or a heavy sizing (presumably done to repair the visible tears and marginal chips.) Beyond those initial leaves, the remainder with more typical toning, moderate foxing, occasional soiling or stains, and final leaf chipped heavily to outer margin costing the end/beginning of several lines of the table. Sold as-is with all faults.
