Description
Meissen Porcelain Kugelspielerin Ball Player Figure Modelled after the bronze by Walter Schott (German, 1861- 1938). The female figure modelled standing, leaning forward, dressed in a pink toga, and supported by a tree stump toward the back of the stepped cylindrical base. The gilt ball in her right hand attached to the palm with a metal rod. Painted in pastel polychrome enamels with gilt highlights. Underglaze blue crossed swords mark and dot to back of the tree stump, incised to the underside of the base, Q 780, and impressed 153. Iron red 28. {Approximate dimensions: 14 3/8" H.}. Condition: Overall appearance is very attractive, and the bulk of the figure in very good condition. Pointer finger, right hand, broken off; several other of the fingers broken off, professionally reglued, and overpainted although now with visible cracks to the points of regluing. Minor wear and minimal surface scratches.
