Description
A tall slender carved wooden marionette like head, also possibly used in dance or as a parade staff with stylized ancestor face, elaborate coiffure, incised scar designs and traditional grimace like smile, ornately carved staff handle. Such staff heads were used for a dance bearing the same name "kebe kebe", which occurs at the end of initiation periods of young boys. The staffs were held high above the heads of the dancers. Kebe-kebe puppets depict various characters associated with this dance. The Staff measures 20 inches tall on a simple wooden base. Provenance: Silverman collection, New York.
