A Victorian silver wine ewer
Daniel and Charles Houle doublestruck, London 1861, duty mark
Ovoid form, with elongated tapering neck, the hinged cover with a cast and chased grape and vine leaf finial, a high scroll handle embossed with bark effect, circling vine tendrils and ivory insulators, the whole profusely decorated in high and low relief with floral and foliate panels against a matt ground, the rest plain polished, a shaped oval vacant cartouche surrounded by foliate c-scrolls both front and back, all raised on a circular pedestal foot with repoussé and chased floral borders, height 37cm, weight 32oz.
