Description
Two scenes of Belgium, both gouache and pastel on paper, each signed, one of Antwerp, the other " The Great Alter Screen of Dixmude" dated for 1910. George Wharton Edwards was born in Fair Haven, Connecticut, in 1859, and died in Greenwich, Connecticut in 1950. He was a painter and author of books regarding American history and European customs. He lived in Paris prior to 1892, New York City (1892-1902); Plainfield, New Jersey; and Greenwich, Connecticut; and was known for his unique handling of impressionism and for his marine paintings of fishermen, lobstermen and boats along the Monhegan shoreline.
Dimensions: The scene of Dixmude: sight is 19" x 11 1/2", the frame 27 1/2" x 19 1/2", the scene of Antwerp: sight is 19 1/2" x 12 1/2", the frame 25" x 17 3/4"
Condition
Both appear to be in good condition, not examined out of the frames.
