Description
All three gouache, pencil, and pastel on paper, all signed at the lower left corner, one depicting a sardine fisher, one depicting Flemish lace makers, and one depicting women and a child on a boat.
George Wharton Edwards was born in Fair Haven, Connecticut, in 1859, and died in Greenwich, Connecticut in 1950. He was a painter and author of books regarding American history and European customs. He lived in Paris prior to 1892, New York City (1892-1902); Plainfield, New Jersey; and Greenwich, Connecticut; and was known for his unique handling of impressionism and for his marine paintings of fishermen, lobstermen and boats along the Monhegan shoreline.
Dimensions: The women and child on a boat: sight is 18 1/2" x 12 1/2", the frame 23" x 17", the sardine fisher: sight is 19 3/4" x 9 3/4", the frame: 26 1/2" x 16 1/2", the lace makers: sight is 17" x 9 1/2", the frame 20 1/2" x 12 3/4"
Condition
Two appear to be in good condition, the one depicting lace makers glass is broken and has some creasing to the paper.
