Description
Africa, Madagascar, Late Cretaceous, ca. 100.5 to 65.5 million years ago. A superb and aesthetically fascinating pair of ammonite shells, excavated from the stone matrix they fossilized in. These are heteromorph ammonites in the Nostoceras genus, meaning they do not have the usual spiral shape of ammonite most people are familiar with; the ribbed shells are irregularly coiled and bends back on itself, giving it a unique appearance. The surrounding stone has been cut and shaped with a flat base to display. Size: 6" L x 4" W x 5" H (15.2 cm x 10.2 cm x 12.7 cm)
