Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. A delightful pottery vessel in the form of a double-headed dog adorned in red slip with faint remains of spiraling black-painted designs. The symmetrical animal stands upon 4 thick legs with heads on opposite sides, each displaying a tapered snout, delineated nostrils, an incised mouth, and heavy-lidded eyes. Rounded ears flank each head while a flared rim opens at the center. Size: 9.3" L x 6" W x 5.1" H (23.6 cm x 15.2 cm x 13 cm)

Condition
Professionally repaired with restoration over break lines and chipping with small losses to rim and ear of one head. Light surface wear as shown, but otherwise good presentation with light remains of black-painted decoration. Manganese deposits in areas.
