Description
Pre-Columbian, Guatemala, the Peten, Mayan, ca. 550 to 800 CE. This is something that we do not come across every day! A finely built and painted terracotta stand intended to support a large vessel or bowl. Of an attractive and functional form, with a convex central band of openwork triangular designs and incised geometric motifs, the surface of a gorgeous burnt orange hue with deep red linear markings around rim and base. How lovely this would be when used to display a fabulous ceramic bowl! Size: 5"H x 6-5/8" at widest.
Provenance: Ex-private D. C. collection, California. Emmy Award Winning Hollywood writer and Executive Producer, collected before 2000.

Repaired from three or four pieces with small nicks to base and rim and surface wear as shown. Nice root markings covering surface.
