Description
Autographs of members/associates of the PRB (Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood). 11 letters from 3 authors. 1) J.E. Millais (1829-1896) A founder of the PRB. 8 ALS spanning the years 1869-1882. All complete except for one that has had an entire section torn away, but the signature is intact. 2) William Morris (1834-1896) Founder of Kelmscott Press. Small ALS to an unknown recipient on Kelmscott Manor letterhead and dated August 16, 1893. Fine signature. H 7-1/8" W 4-3/4". Another ALS to an unknown recipient on January 19, 1880 (26, Queen Square, Bloomsbury, London letterhead) concerning his poem being founded on the Scandinavian version of the Niblung Story, and the relation between the German and the Scandinavian version of the Great Northern Epic. Fine signature at end. H 7-1/2" W 4-3/4". 3) W. Holman-Hunt (1827-1910) English painter. ALS to "My Dear Frith" (Frances Frith -photographer). He is very complimentary, and very glad Frith will be visiting him "Sunday afternoon". Fine signature. H 7" W 4-1/4". Condition: All letters are in very fine condition, except as noted in one Millais letter. One of the Morris letters has some minor loss due to removal from an album. This letter has also been pasted to one of Morris's title pages. Some folds and normal age soiling.
