Description

Early Boston Bruins Memorabilia, 3 Pcs Including Eddie Shore Autograph!

A small collection of professional ice hockey memorabilia, specifically relating to the Boston Bruins, the oldest such team in the United States; and brilliant Boston Bruins defender Eddie Shore. The lot includes a 1964 check signed by Eddie Shore; a triumphant 1938-1939 "Worlds Champions" Boston Bruins poster; and a 1939-1940 Ward's Tip-Top Bread Eddie Shore collector's pin. The largest item, the poster, is framed behind glass and measures approximately 13.5" x 20" x .625."

The lot includes:

1. A "Springfield Hockey Association Inc. / Eastern States Coliseum…West Springfield, Mass." check signed by Eddie Shore (1902-1985) as "Eddie Shore" on the signature line. Check number 1871 in the amount of $40.50 dated December 10, 1964 was issued to Edward L. Canter, Inc. with funds drawn from the Valley Bank and Trust Company of Springfield, Massachusetts. Bearing the usual hand-stamps and other clerical marks. 8.25" x 3."

Eddie Shore was recently named one of the top 100 greatest professional ice hockey players of all time. The Canadian-born defender played professional hockey for over 10 years, the majority of that time (1926-1939) with the Boston Bruins.

2. A vintage "1938-1939 Worlds Champions / and / National Hockey League Champions / Winners of Stanley Cup and Prince of Wales Trophy" Boston Bruins poster framed behind glass. The poster features a collage of player, manager, and president portraits along with salient season statistics, interspersed with facsimile signatures. A small hole is located in the surface on Milt Schmidt's leg near the center right edge; and there is minor silvering visible towards the bottom of the frame. Some surface warping/wavering, and expected wear to the ebonized frame. Else near fine. Not examined out of the frame. The sight size of the frame is 12.5" x 19" while the actual size of the frame is 13.5" x 20" x .625."

During the November 1938-April 1939 season, the Boston Bruins won the National Hockey League season championship; the team's second Stanley Cup; and the Prince of Wales trophy.

3. A vintage collector's pin, "Winners Eat Ward's / Eddie Shore / Eats Tip-Top Bread," ca. 1939-1940, housed in a labeled holder measuring 2.5" square. The pin back appears to be intact but shows moderate rust. Not examined outside of the holder. The pin measures approximately 1.25" diameter.
