Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924) signed Letter on Official White House stationery dated May 12, 1916, to Edward N Hurley in the Federal Trade Commission. 3pp. 8” x 10.5”. Soiling and toning throughout commensurate with age. Light pencil notations as seen in photos.
This letter was written a year before the USA joined World War 1 on April 6, 1917. Woodrow Wilson, as President, addresses business in the USA during WW1 to be “An Important factor in a World Market.”
During the first two and a half years of combat, the United States was a neutral party, and the economic boom came primarily from exports. The total value of U.S. exports grew from $2.4 billion in 1913 to $6.2 billion in 1917.
Woodrow Wilson, a leader of the Progressive Movement, was the 28th President of the United States (1913-1921). After a policy of neutrality at the outbreak of World War I, Wilson led America into war in order to “make the world safe for democracy.”
